The number of air ambulance flights has risen compared to the same period last year. The number of flights this month is now up to 30.
Last Monday we transported a patient from Greenland which needed medical attention in Reykjavik, Iceland. Among other locations where patients have been picked up for transportation to eitherAkureyri or Reykjavik, are; Egilsstadir, Nordfjordur, the Westman Islands and Thorshofn, in Eastern Iceland.
Recently a child was transported from Akureyri to Reykjavik under the highest category response level and in the care of two doctors and two EMT's. The flight time was just under forty minutes andthe drive from Reykjavik airport to the nearest hospital was less than five minutes, proving the need for this type of service in Iceland.
